Update on Scam Messaging
Updated: Friday 25th July 2025
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen a number of scam messages come through the customer messaging system on Madeit. While things have settled down now, we want to keep you in the loop about what’s been happening, what we’ve implemented.
A Quick Recap
Scammers were manually creating customer accounts to send messages that looked legitimate but were anything but. One common message claimed your account had been suspended and asked you to verify it by clicking a link.
These were real people, not just bots, which meant they could slip past human-test filters.
What We’ve Implemented
1 . Blocked Links and Images
Customers can no longer include clickable links or upload images in messages. This stops one of the most common scam tactics in its tracks.
2 . Limited Message Activity
To reduce spam, we’ve:
- Capped the number of artisans a customer can contact to five per day
- Slowed the number of messages that can be sent per minute
3 . Login Required to Contact You
Customers must be logged in to their Madeit account before they can message you. This has always been part of our process, but it's an important layer of security worth highlighting.
4 . Contact Seller Button Hidden Overnight
We’ve added another layer of protection by hiding the ‘Contact Seller’ button during overnight hours. This is when scam attempts tend to spike, so this change helps reduce suspicious contact.
5 . Marketplace-Level Moderation
We now have the ability to remove suspicious messages before they even reach you. If you receive an email notification about a message, but there’s nothing there when you log in, it means our system (or team) has already caught and removed it.
How You Can Help
Please stay alert when checking your messages.
If anything feels off:
- Don’t click on any links
- Don’t reply
- Take a screenshot (please don’t forward the email), and send it to support@madeit.com.au
Forwarded emails can carry risks, screenshots are much safer for our team to review.
We’re on It ⭐️
We’re actively removing scam accounts, blocking suspicious activity, and continuing to tighten filters and tools. Your vigilance makes a big difference, and we’re grateful for your help in keeping the Madeit community safe.
If you’re ever unsure, reach out. We’re here.
Warmly,
Leina
