Important Update: Digital Products on Madeit

From 30 June 2026, digital products will no longer be supported on Madeit.

We wanted to share an important update regarding digital products on Madeit and explain why this change is happening. We know this may be disappointing for some artisans, particularly those selling downloadable patterns, printables, templates or other digital files, so we wanted to be open and transparent about the decision.

What is changing?

From 30 June 2026, digital products will no longer be supported on Madeit.

After this date:

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Digital listings will no longer be available for purchase

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ New digital products cannot be added

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Existing digital listings will need to be removed or converted to physical products

Madeit will continue to support physical handmade products only.

Why is this happening?

In July 2024, Australian Electronic Distribution Platform (EDP) reporting legislation came into effect.

This legislation impacts online marketplaces where digital products are sold and introduces additional reporting and compliance requirements for platform operators.

For marketplaces selling digital items, such as downloadable patterns or files, there are additional obligations including:

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Collecting additional seller information

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Maintaining and supplying reporting data

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Ongoing compliance and administration requirements

As a small Australian business, we’ve carefully considered what this means for Madeit.

While we love supporting creativity in all forms, digital products currently make up a very small part of the platform. The additional complexity, reporting requirements and costs mean we’ve made the difficult decision to focus solely on supporting physical handmade products moving forward.

This decision allows us to keep Madeit simple, sustainable and focused on what we do best, supporting Australian handmade artisans.

What products are affected?

This change applies to any digital or downloadable product, including things like:

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Downloadable patterns

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Printable artwork or planners

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Digital templates

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Downloadable files or guides

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Instant downloads

If your customer receives a file digitally rather than a physical product in the post, it will likely be affected.

Can I still sell something similar?

In many cases, yes.

If your digital product can be adapted into a physical offering, you are very welcome to continue selling on Madeit.

Some examples might include:

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ A downloadable sewing pattern becoming a printed pattern posted to customers

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ A printable becoming a professionally printed product

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ A template or guide becoming a printed workbook or booklet

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ A digital design becoming part of a physical DIY kit

We encourage you to think creatively about how your offering might transition into a physical handmade product.

What do I need to do?

Before 30 June 2026, please:

1. Review your store

Check whether you currently have any digital or downloadable listings live.

2. Decide whether to remove or convert

You can either:

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Remove the listing entirely

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Convert it into a physical product offering

3. Update your listings

If converting to physical, make sure your listing clearly explains:

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ What the customer will receive

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Shipping information

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Processing times

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Any product updates required

What happens if I don’t update my listings?

After 30 June 2026, digital products will no longer be supported and any remaining digital listings may be removed from the platform.
